Tips on how to
Transfer to a Many community college students eventually transfer to a four year college or university. These institutions offer bachelor, masters, and sometimes doctorate degrees in a health field. While a certificate or associate degree may be great for an entry level job, advanced degrees may be desirable or even required by certain medical facilities for further job opportunities. Here are just a few tips to help if you are thinking about one day "going for" a bachelors or higher degree: 1. Find out if the health career you are considering has advanced degree requirements for promotion or to increase the chance of being hired. Find out if an advanced degree must or should be in that field. In other words, is it "ok" to have a masters in administration instead of say, clinical lab science? 2. Ask your community college counselor or program faculty about transfer agreements. Some agreements cover a whole list of courses that will be accepted. Other agreements are less formal and created upon request for individual students. 3. Contact four year colleges or universities about community college courses that will transfer. There is usually a limit on total credits and sometimes restrictions on the level of courses taken. 4. See if there are "extra" courses you can take while getting your associate degree. Be sure any "extra" courses are approved for transfer first. 5. What ever you do, DO NOT assume that any course work will automatically transfer between any two institutions of higher education. Get a plan in writing from the institution offering the higher degree. Make several copies and put at least one in a safe place. Almost every community college has an office that helps students with transfer to four year colleges and universities. When in doubt, contact the admissions office. Related topics: |
